Effectiveness of ADEA being recognized in Tanzania. Received visits from the US, Finnish, and German ambassadors, Tanzanian dignitaries and NGO project representatives.
Mtwara, Tanzania, in this place visitors are few, and income generating opportunities are even fewer. But in ADEA workshops you will find a growing number of artisans generating steady incomes by producing beautiful gift and craft items per our credo: to “Produce the highest quality goods and services possible, believing there will always be a demand for excellence”. At ADEA we are reaching into the culture and traditions of the Makonde, Makua and Yao tribes resulting in unique products that are highly desirable to the targeted market – the international visitor.
All in all, over 75 different beautiful items are being produced by ADEA artisans, which are being sold to an every increasing number of buyers.
Focusing on locally available resources a wide variety of gift items are being produced: such as ornaments painted on coconut shells and seashells, hand lathed wooded boxes and metal clothes hooks decorated with colorful & whimsical paintings. Trivets and salad servers are skillfully carved, inspired by traditional designs and themes, and wine stops showcase the famed Makonde statues in a portable size. Tailors sew children’s clothes, place mats, aprons and bags using local batik, khanga and tie-and-die fabrics.
